PCI is directly supporting six building code change proposals for the 2009 IBC code development cycle.

Proposal Section 421 and Proposal Section 1614 deal with creating new structural integrity provisions as a result of NIST’s WTC investigations.

Proposal Section 406_3_6 deals with clarifying the height dimension in the calculation of interior area of an open parking structure.

Proposal Section 713_1 deals with adding a provision that includes enclosed parking garages as a location where
fire-resistant joint systems are not required.

Proposal Section 1613_6_3 deals with adding provisions for ordinary braced frames of reinforced concrete to be used as
lateral-force-resisting systems in earthquake design.

Proposal Section 2603_5_5 deals with creating an exception for precast concrete sandwich wall panels to a fire test standard.
This provision currently requires all wall assemblies containing foam plastic insulation (including all precast insulated panels)
in a multi-story building to be fire tested.
