2007 Architectural Student Design Competition
The PCI Student Education Committee (Pat Hynes, chair) enthusiastically continued its sponsorship of PCI's Architectural Student Design Competition for 2007.
This year's PCI Total Precast Design Challenge was the design of a new PCI headquarters. The design was intended to address the vision that PCI has for itself. In addition to showcasing a total precast concrete solution (defined as 100% of structural and architectural elements), a 100% precast concrete parking structure was also incorporated into the design requirements.
New to this year's competition was the consideration of sustainable building practices. The potential for precast/prestressed concrete as a green building material is significant, and successful entries incorporated the use of precast/prestressed concrete as an agent in sustainable design. A minimum potential Silver LEED rating was required of all designs.
